Security Assessment

The Oklahoma City bombing of April 19, 1995, and the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., revealed the vulnerability of our nation’s critical infrastructure to terrorist attacks. In 2004 Congress passed the Bio-Terrorism Act (BTA) which aimed, amongst other things, to protect our public water supplies. The Act requires water systems to conduct security vulnerability assessments. New vulnerability assessment methodologies such as RAMCAP and VSATTM are now available to assess and mitigate security risks.

         KUV offers these security services:

  • Security vulnerability assessment
  • Threat analysis
  • Security audit
  • Security master plans
  • Security program, policies & procedures
  • PTED strategies

Disaster Preparedness

Disasters, whether natural or man-made, test the resiliency of water, wastewater, and public works agencies by challenging their abilities to provide services to the affected communities. Fortunately, careful planning can mitigate the impacts of such disasters and allow agencies to provide continuity of essential services. FEMA recently adopted the National Incident Management System (NIMS) that mandates a certain readiness for water, wastewater and public works agencies.

KUV offers these disaster preparedness services:

  • Disaster impact analysis
  • Continuity of Operations (COOP) Plan
  • Emergency response plan
  • Crisis communication plan

Training

Staff training plays a very important role in an organization’s ability to prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. FEMA’s National Incident Management System (NIMS) recognizes employees of water, wastewater, and public works agencies as “first responders” – a designation previously reserved only for law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. NIMS requires specific training for water, wastewater, and public works employees.

KUV offers these on-site training services:

  • NIMS IS-100, IS-200 and IS-700
  • Customized COOP/ERP training
  • Field drills, tabletop, functional (EOC) and full-scale exercises

Professional development hours (PDH) are issued for most training programs.

Annual Program

Two of the biggest challenges organizations face are (i) to keep information updated and (ii) to keep-up the momentum of the program.

KUV offers a comprehensive, low-cost, customized “Annual Security and Emergency Preparedness Program.” Our available services under an Annual Program include:

  • Review vulnerability assessment
  • Update emergency response & COOP plans
  • Update emergency management toolbox (EMT©)
